Classified - Nutrition Service Assistant Range 4 SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under general supervision of Human Resources, assists in the preparation and serving of food in the school cafeteria; cleans kitchen equipment, utensils, and work area.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:
Equivalent to graduation from high school.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:
Completion of a food safety certification program as provided by the District.

Experience:
Employment in a school nutrition program or in the food service industry.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Possesses knowledge of sanitation and safety requirements in food preparation, handling, and storage.
2.
Possesses knowledge of the use and maintenance of standard food serving utensils, appliances, and equipment.
3.
Possesses knowledge of basic computer operations.
4.
Works safely and establishes a safe environment; reacts quickly in emergency situations to maximize safety.
Analyzes situations and takes appropriate action regarding routine/emergency procedural matters without immediate supervision.
5.
Communicates effectively orally and in writing.
6.
Works with students, District personnel, and general public in a pleasant and cooperative manner.

Understands and follows oral and written instructions and completes assignments in an independent manner.

Maintains professional confidentiality and works collaboratively with peers.
Essential Functions:
1.
Assists in preparation of a variety of foods for cooking and serving.
2.
Estimates and prepares appropriate food quantities and can stock food for mobile food carts.
3.
Performs basic mathematical computations quickly and accurately.
Handles money and makes change correctly.
Responsible for computerized and manual cashier duties including preparing money trays, reconciling daily sales.
4.
Stores food properly.
5.
Heats, presents, and serves food to students, faculty and the public.
6.
Maintains accurate records.

Assists with the inventory of food, supplies, and equipment including maintaining operational records.
8.
Cleans work areas, dishes, trays, pots and pans, utensils, and other cafeteria equipment.
9.
Operates a variety of equipment used in the preparation, packaging and serving of food to students, staff and faculty.
10.
Monitors and maintains food safety standards related to equipment, food, and personnel behaviors.
11.
Maintains quality control including monitoring food for proper food temperature, both during serving and on serving line.
12.
Performs other duties as assigned consistent with a Nutrition Service Assistant.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.
Stand, walk and bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull.
Move, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds to waist level and 75 pounds on a rolling cart.
2.
Repetitive use of hands (i.
e.
fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping).
3.
Demonstrate normal depth perception.
4.
Standing for extended periods.
5.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard or typewriter, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone.
6.
See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids.
7.
Distinguish colors.
8.
Read and understand rules and policies, labels, and instructions.
9.
Verbal communications, including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels and on the telephone.
10.
Normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination required to operate power and motorized equipment using both hands.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
1.
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments including work in a wide range of temperature areas.
2.
Exposure to dust, oils, and cleaning chemicals.
3.
May work on ladders.
4.
May work with exposure to moisture.
5.
Some exposure to childhood and other diseases in a school environment.
